With Tarn dealt with for the time being and his own systems running closer to 100% again, Megatron's been spending more time prowling around outside keeping an eye out for trouble than before, you know, just in case Tarn isn't as down and out as they thought, or anybody equally godawful decides to show up and stir shit, so that he can beat their heads in (he has kind of missed being able to beat in heads) and say 'I told you so' to any Autobots still dubious about his fool's energon detox decisions.

Well, OK, it's partially that and partially that he's got a lot on his mind right now and this is a reasonable excuse to spend some time alone with his thoughts. WHICH MEANS ITS AN IDEAL TIME TO INTERRUPT HIM, GET TO IT

(That said he may also be skulking around Maccadam's to make sure none of the people he's supposed to be responsible for are starting shit. Alternatively I am sure I can come up with an excuse for him to be anywhere you want so if you want something more specific feel free to hit me up/post whatever kind of starter u like, you know. im flexible and so is this post)

His expression hardens as he gets that familiar look of damp, meek remorse.

"It's not just about Tarn - and stop wallowing," The edge of the berth gets a firm whack,"It's about all of the Decepticons here."

Megatron backs away,"I visited their compound, and they're barely scraping by when we have supplies both sides can share. But the idea seems too alien to even attempt, even when I insist otherwise."

He sits up sharply, looking shocked and offended. "I am not wallowing," he starts to reply, but, no, he kind of is.

He folds his arms, frowning, and listens; after a moment, he sighs, and says, "It's been a long war. I don't imagine the Autobots would have let me try to help them if I hadn't taken this," he gestures to his badge, his expression unreadable, "and the Decepticons..." Megatron shakes his head. "They won't want to accept Autobot charity."

Some reaction out of him was better than more deflated sighing. He was getting rather sick of the constant malaise.

"Apologies, I was unaware that you'd grow to be accepting of moronic traditions," he crosses his arms,"Besides, it won't be Autobot charity, it will be following their leader into a beneficial alliance."

Megatron lifts his head slightly, his expression calculating as he looks his younger self in the eye. "You," he says. It's only sort of a question.

"I think so," he says, unsure of himself. Despite the biting remarks, he still had originally come here to ask for a counsel, of sorts.

"Tarn ignored me when I instructed him to leave the Autobots be. I'm fairly certain he wouldn't have attacked them if he had a stronger hand dissuading him."

He nods, slowly.

"No," he says, "he might well not have, if he thought your word was worth respecting." He taps his finger against his chin. "You might be what the Decepticons need." He himself might be what the Decepticons need, he thinks, but he knows he's blown his chance of holding onto the trust of the people he owes his support to; his younger self hasn't, not necessarily.

"That is what it seems like."

He settles back into chair.

"I don't imagine there will be much time to continue training here if I need to do this," he says, his own remorse beginning to seep into his voice. Leadership wasn't something he yearned for - it just always had some way of ending up his responsibility. Somehow.

He watches him for a moment or two, and then scrubs a hand over his face, and looks away.

"I'm sorry," he says. "This is my responsibility; it shouldn't be yours."

"No. I can't pretend I'd be satisfied watching more innocent people end up on a medical slab when I could do something about it."

As much as he found himself enjoying his work, it was really attacking a symptom of a bigger problem.

"I'm not sure where to start."

Megatron nods slowly. True enough. And if he succeeded – if his goal was peace, real peace, instead of conquest and war – then perhaps there would be time to learn. Afterwards.

It doesn't make him feel much better.

"... I can help you," he says. "I owe that much – to you and them."

There's a long pause from him. Part of him still considers turning away, entirely aware this was a threshold he really couldn't go back on.

But after a tired sigh of his own, he finally asks: "How?"

He can see that decision, percolating, and something inside him twists uncomfortably as it's made.

But he knows this is what needs to be done. All he can do is try to help shoulder the burden.

"I... know them. I know what they're used to. I can show you what I did right, not just what I did wrong, and I'll do everything I can to try to make them listen to you."

He wonders, briefly, if that might not go both ways...

"Well," he starts, a little more resolved now that the decision was done,"We'd best start as soon as you can."

He reaches for Tarn's badge, which he had been keeping in a compartment, looking down at it's polished surface.

"I don't imagine they'll be content with waiting for me to be ready."

Megatron glances up again.

He nods, but he hesitates a moment when his younger self pulls the badge out.

"... That's Tarn's."

"I spoke to him after you two fought each other."

He sets it down on the medical slab, "We had a disagreement on what consitutes Decepticon loyalty."

Megatron nods again, more slowly, and he doesn't look away from the badge.

"I think that's a reminder he needed."
