Drift sees the look on Rodimus' face and knows it's genuine, and he's prepared to let it all go. He doesn't want to be upset with Rodimus, and there's a kind of relief in knowing that he doesn't have to be. But that thought vanishes from his mind almost entirely when Rodimus drops the news -- his optics widen and he looks shocked and almost devastated, the like the bottom's just dropped out of his tanks.
