What: Optimus finding out just what went down while he was gone from various people, or if they need to talk to him about anything.

The trip wasn't a complete loss, that's for sure. Optimus has somehow contacted the planet, and while it was rather vague, he found out quite a bit about their mission here. Way more than he would have just grasping at proverbial straws. The objective, however, wouldn't be easy. In its own way, Cybertron had told him that they had to work together, that they had to get along.

You can already see what's wrong with this equation, and to be honest, it left Optimus feeling a little doubtful on his return.

Speaking of his return. That's a thing that happened, and right now he's trying to gather his bearings for being gone for....oh...a week at most.

You can find him all over, scouting around for anyone who might be around to ask for information. But if you need him first--well...he stands out, at least.

Pipes doesn't need to find Optimus. Pipes just wants to talk to him again. The second he sees the giant red bot walking down a street, the minibot immediately rockets over to him. He's clearly way too over excited, but whatever. He's not self-aware enough to realise that just yet.

"Optimus Prime, sir!" He salutes, again. "It's been--" several weeks? He's lost track of time. "A while. Have you been okay?"

Yes, ask the Autobot leader if he's okay. Fuck, Pipes is so excited.

Optimus's eyes dart down, seeing Pipes pop up like a literal robot daisy. Smaller bots always seemed to sneak up on him, it seems....

"Pipes." His eyes soften, glad to see he's still around. "I've been fair, although I was away for quite some time. That might explain my absence."

...

"And yourself?"

'I was gone, so I was away.' Yes, Optimus, that explains it quite well.

"Just exploring!"

He's an explorer don't you know!

"Where did you go?"

SHUT UP PIPES YOU GET STEPPED ON.

"Are you, now? Anything of interest to report?"

...As for himself...

"I went to commune with the planet. Something has been tugging at my mind since my arrival, and I followed the feeling out into the wastelands."

THE CORRECT WORD IS STOMPED.

"Not as much as I'd like, unfortunately. Every time I think I've found a good cache of useful stuff it turns out to be too damaged or not what we need," he snorts slightly, "I mean, unless you want one of those puzzle box things. Pass some time, at least. You know the ones where you have to match up the colours?"

He could go on with the amount of useless shit he's found, but stops. This is Optimus, after all. The Prime probably doesn't care. Pipes rubs the back of his head awkwardly, going a bit pink while listening to what Optimus was doing.

"Did it help, at least?"

For a moment, he feels like he wants to tell Pipes that many humans just remove the stickers and replace them in same colour order, but...he'll see if Pipes does it the old fashioned way or not himself.

"I've heard of them," he says airly, and although his emotions aren't as visible due to the faceplate, overall he sounds much more relaxed.

"It did. I...actually spoke to it, and it told us our purpose for being here."

He's trying the proper way. He'll refrain from telling Optimus when he finishes, no matter how proud he may be.

"Oh! Cybertron quest update! What did it say? Why are we here?"

You should anyway, Pipes. He'd certainly be....proud. Like when your son squishes a really big bug.

"We're here because it wants us to...work together."

He seems to grow more weary at that last part.

After being on the Lost Light for a few months... Pipes shakes his head and puts a hand on Optimus' knee.

"I'm so sorry."

The touch and comment are very much appreciated, Pipes. Because he's currently sorry for himself as well. And very much unsure of how to handle the situation.

"It seems we'll have a lot of work to do."

Crying on the inside now.

"I'm sure we can do it if we can unite everyone in a common purpose that... isn't trying to kill each other..."

He trails off a bit awkwardly. Pipes isn't naive enough that he doesn't realise there's a lot of mechs here who will have their own agenda. Looking at you, Starscreams.

"Oh I'm sure there is a way. It's simply finding it. And finding it without any casualties."

He notices that awkward tone, and tries to at least put on a good front for him. A hand goes to the smaller bot's shoulder, eyes trying to remain optimistic.

"We're off to a good start. You and I cooperate."

Aw, Optimus, you're too good. Pipes optics go all atwinkle and he clasps both hands in front of his chest, absolutely delighted.

"It can be done, Optimus. There's not many of us here and I'm sure eventually they'll come around."

Even if they didn't after four million years... hopefully everyone being a fish out of water will change that.

"Your optimism is going to be key. If you can, please spread it."

That kind of attitude was rare after a war. And Pipes is speaking as someone who fought in the war. He has far more strength than a lot of them.

"Certainly, sir. I think I can handle being nice to people."

To be fair, he didn't really see a lot of the shit the others did.

There's an amused hum from him, eyes glinting.

"I wouldn't expect anything less. I heard you were quite appreciated on the Lost Light."

Especially the part where you died.

Pipes clasps his hands together, optics a twinkle.

"R-really? Gosh..."

"Of course. Rodimus cares very much for all of his crew. You included."

He might as well let the baby have some good things to dwell on.
