[Video] Sad Dad Bad Had
[After seeing Megatron's response, something certainly has been keeping Prime busy. He wasn't wrong--something did have to be done instead of wallowing in the loss (or victory) of a war. And if that meant following Megatron--well...he had to say he wasn't overly enticed by that plan. He knew the bot meant well, and would try not to let the same thing happen twice. But if there's one thing he's learned, it's that trying to change yourself turns you back into what you've been this whole time.
You can't outrun your identity. Optimus knows that now.]
I request an audience with all of you, whether it be in person or over the communications feed. As most of you know, I've talked with Cybertron itself, and although I don't exactly understand it, one part of its message was clear--we must learn to coincide with each other. To get along and make progress.
Megatron is proposing a start to this.
[Well, he might as well be honest.]
But there are going to be problems. One of which is a symbol of the war--me. I am a Prime, and to some of you, I've been the toxin in your systems. The rust in your side. I'm here to dispel one thing--I'm not going to give the title up, as it's part of my identity. I will be commander to those who serve under me, as long as they'll have me. Other than that, however much say you want me to have in this world is entirely up to you. If me stepping back will cause those who follow Megatron's dream to co-exist peacefully with the Autobots, I will gladly do so.
...
I've only been a Prime during the war. And I cannot look to previous examples for assistance. [Sentinel]
I suppose that's it. I hope that broadcasted nicely. I can never tell.
[Private to Sentinel]
Meet me by the crater.
[ROUND TWO OF REHAB, BUDDY.]

[ Kind of just blew up the ship he was on to kill the captain with that one. ]
I digress. Perhaps the more immediate concerns of the planet itself should take precedence once we settle on who gets to hold the flag.

That was literally the point, Optimus. This is all too familiar. But he still has a hard time meeting Shockwave's gaze, the pain still aching in his spark.]Perhaps. After all, Cybertron will prosper underneath cooperation. We must first get everyone's cooperation. And leadership often comes along in that package.
...
Where do you stand, Shockwave?

Matters complicated themselves when, for all intents and purposes, Optimus was the future for Cybertron. Whether he liked to admit it himself or not. ]

The truth was, he had no idea what was best. He might be, he might not. That's the world they lived in. One of uncertainty, and anything could shift.
So to hear it from Shockwave...]
You almost seem surprised.
[Because haha your emotions are probably still somewhat shot get it shot cause they had to shoot you]
no subject
[ Well that was point blank haha stop immediately. ]
What has always set you apart be from either the primacy or our sordid progenitors if you have and will continue to do so is strive for what is right. Not what you believe to be best.
[ Shockwave tilts his head. Voice flat but the light casting an almost wry facsimile of expression on his empty face. ]
Forgive me if that seems vague. It took time for even one such as myself to sort out the discrepancies between the two.
no subject
[But he appreciates the advice, and although you can't see behind the faceplate, his eyes seem grateful.]
It's a start, Shockwave. For the both of us.

[ That comment was not as harsh as the previous - almost humorous, almost. He can hear you smiling, Optimus. It's almost noxious stop that immediately.
Do not stop that.]Your reputation is not so tarnished. Our cooperation might very well end up under greater scrutiny than if you personally aligned yourself with every Decepticon here.

Our cooperation is exactly what the planet wants. Isn't that, in the end, what we're trying to achieve?
no subject
[ Place is a shithole, but it's their shithole. ]
For your sake I would maintain a measure of discretion where you and I are concerned. Even through your rose-tinted optics one would be hard pressed to deny I would attract suspicion at best and unpopular attention at worst.
[ Shockwave is totally talking about working together with that loaded statement. ]

[But Shockwave has a point.]
I suppose that announcing any sort of alliance we have will not go over well with many people here. Even if that's exactly what the planet wants us to do. Either way...I hope you and I can at least be friends.
Like we were.
[He said the F word]

[ Shockwave goes quiet. Then, calmly with unbroken eye contact: ]
You remember me fondly. More besides have more memories and fresher wounds where your young scout was concerned.
[ There was one matter Optimus pointedly ignored: He could not pretend Shockwave was the same person. Maybe a better one, maybe no longer shackled by a cold logic - but he was not without guilt and could not indulge the notion everyone else would be so understanding. ]
Were it so easy. [ IT'S NOT A NO ] Don't throw yourself on the sword for me again should the weight of what I'd done there follow us here.
Twice was enough when others would not have survived once, and all I feel I deserve to ask of you now.

[Because until now, he hadn't really addressed that to anyone. Anyone but Bumblebee, really. And while he considered Shockwave to be his friend down there somewhere, barely above drowning in the weight of all the shadowplay, he had to take that into consideration.
But.]
But if our cooperation is distant at best, even that is enough.
My hand never stopped reaching out to you, Shockwave. I owe you that for how many times you held out yours to me.
Back then.

[ The extremes to which absolute pragmatism took him could not be done justice over the course of one conversation or likely through language itself. And yet he was concerned with at the very least keeping Optimus from taking on guilt that wasn't his own - just once. ]
Yes, well...
[ Now of all times, Shockwave has to work through finding the right words. ]
Maybe now we won't burn that bridge when we get to it.
no subject
[There's no verbal answer, just a simple nod. Which in this case, was the simplest to do. Maybe he did it so he couldn't talk himself out of letting that happen. Just letting Shockwave shoulder some of that burden.]
Crossing it seems like the better option.
