Even someone as sociable as June needs a break from the party sometime -- especially when you're supposed to be keeping an eye on everyone. Well, she's a self-appointed chaperone, anyway, but someone has to keep watch on these overgrown teenagers.

It's quieter out aways from the forum, and June's tiny shoes crunch on the gravel as she comes to stand next to Optimus, holding a little cup of Miranda's space vodka. "You know, the Optimus I knew was never much of a party person, either."

Ah yes, Chaperoning did give you quite the responsibility. Although Optimus is adamant that you can do that (and succeed quite well!) from afar. Which is exactly what he's doing when June walks up. Recognizing the voice almost immediately, his attention turns down to her, that grown idly swinging on one of those ears.

Just...don't ask.

But the company is welcome, especially from June. "Seems like I have more in common with him the more we talk." He speaks humourously, eyes flicking a shade brighter at her. "Although I can't say much for my skills in this area. I never know what to say for conversation."

"Would you believe you're better at small talk than he was?" June gives him a wry smile, hiding it momentarily in her cup. "It's definitely not a bad thing, being so much like him. I mean -- you're Optimus Prime."

As if that were enough. After all, Optimus always been a symbol, a monolith.

"But you're a little different, too," June goes on, her eyes lighting up. "The more I talk to you, the more I see it. I like it."

"What."

Way to completely put a dent in that theory, Optimus. He could take some social cues, sure, but he would never imagine that he was an expert at small talk. Although the way she treats it as a compliment is...endearing. June had that way about her. She was sincere, and Optimus could certainly appreciate it. Had he'd met her in his world...maybe things would have gone differently.

Which makes him wonder if she is there. Just...not as aware of the Cybertronian species.

"...Your company's been a pleasure to have as well, June. I think you give me a little more credit than I deserve in the small talk area, but it certainly doesn't seem to be a problem around you." Funnily enough. Then again, his conversations with Spike were just as casual. ...Although he shouldn't be making that comparison. Because there was none.

"Have you been faring well here?"

A little awkward small talk is still more than no small talk, Optimus.

June grins and drains her cup, setting it down on the nearest rock or whatever. This city's a dump, sorry OP. "I'll take that as a compliment," she says, her face bright. "And I think you don't give yourself enough credit."

She leans back against the rock, running a hand through her hair. She looks a lot better than a few days ago, because now she's at least had a bath. But her new life on Cybertron has definitely changed her, filed away the softness of suburban life. "I'm doing all right, all things considered, I guess. I'd still kill for food that actually tastes like something...but you can't win them all, right?"

Hey it's not his city. Just a replica of the dump back home! But he can't help but look down at her words, softly speaking an answer to that first part. "There's a lot I don't deserve credit for."

Although he's quick to get the subject off him, noticing just how hardened she looks by the environment. It's certainly a change from how he first met her, when she'd only just arrived. "Hm."

Something to maybe bring up to Brainstorm later.

"You're very strong, for adjusting to this life as you have."
milkruns: (yeah she's a good one)

June smiles, a touchy wryly, and she shrugs offhandedly. "Well, it's not like I had much of a choice. You sleep on the ground enough nights in a row, you start to get used to it. It's not like I can check into a four star hotel, you know?"

Her smile fades, though, and she rubs absently at the back of her neck, sweeping away her hair. "The outdoor living isn't what's tough about it, anyway. It's not having seen my son in six months that's hard to adjust to. I'm starting to feel like I'm never going to get back home."

There's a little glint in his eye as he looks down, then to his drink. "I could always look into the construction of one." Make your requests now, June. You've got Prime-friendship privilege. "Humans will obviously need some sort of housing, and it's our responsibility to make sure they're the most comfortable."

...

"After all, we should be accomodating."

But he pauses as she continues, looking down at the ground again and scuffing one of his large feet slightly. "I can't imagine how difficult that is, but commend you on keeping your spirits up in that situation. It's...admirable."
milkruns: (yeah she's a good one)

[personal profile] milkruns 2015-05-28 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
A hotel? Now that's a nice thought. June even smiles up at him thoughtfully, but she shrugs. "Well, I've actually been staying with Trailcutter, and I can't complain. He's a sweetheart, you know. But the other humans around here would probably appreciate some proper housing. And I guess I know who to call when I want to expand my kitchen."

Her smile spreads into a grin and she tilts her head in a gesture reminiscent of nudging someone in the side with an elbow. Welcome to Mom Joke City, Optimus, population of two. She sighs after that, though, like the air whooshing from a balloon.

"Like I said...there aren't a whole lot of other options. Better that I keep myself busy, right? I just...hope he's all right without me." The words almost hurt to say. It had been hard, watching Jack leave for Cybertron back then. Hard just to think her son was growing up out from under her so fast. It's hard now, not just to think he might need to live without her -- but that he could.
