Obligatory bonding moment
Who: Tarn and Megatron
Where: Decepticon Base
When: Post sex pollen
What: Megatron and Tarn bonding
Warnings: idk maybe a little violence or some shit
To say that Tarn and Megatron have a good relationship would maybe be an overstatement. Tensions have been high since the incident with Helex’s arrival, and then made somewhat awkward after their pollen induced (and mind blowing if Tarn may add) sexual encounter.
For a few days Tarn quietly avoided contact, afraid of seeming too bold. Slowly, however, as those days slide by, he begins gathering the courage to seek out the young miner, determined to do some damage control. He desperately wants to set the record straight and regain his position in his leader's good graces. He's not willing to give up on him just yet, especially not when Tarn saw so much promise in his violent gaze directly after his fight with Helex. There was so much fire in those red optics. Tarn was able to see that his Megatron was still in there, waiting to be shown the way out. It will just take a bit of fancy wording and persuasion, but seeing that potential is all Tarn needed to take an extra step.
He works his way up to the newly built Decepticon base, immediately spotting the young miner as he worked diligently on preparations. Tarn approaches slowly, trying to seem as mild and polite as possible; head bowed slightly in pure submission.
“Megatron. Do you have a moment to speak with me?"

Doing a fair job of disregarding the awkwardness after having seen Tarn's face pressed in between his legs, he stops what he's doing as Tarn bows. The false obedience annoys the hell out of him.
"What is it?"
no subject
“I would like to discuss what happened with Helex.”
As potentially awkward as this discussion may be for Tarn, it needs to happen. The probability of getting verbally ripped to shreds by Megatron is high but he needs to explain himself in a way that will dull that nagging anger.
“I truly am sorry, Megatron. I never told him those things, the Tarn that he came from did. The Tarn that was angry and hurting from his Megatron’s betrayal."
He keeps eye contact, refusing to shy away from the conversation.

Ordinarily, the ex-miner is more willing to forgive whatever happened before their arrival here. There was one exception: Sentinel. And now this. But it was more due to what Tarn has shown him in his time here than the little bite of information.
"Collaborating with the Autobots is tantamount to betrayal to you, isn't it? I'm sure it irritates you greatly."
no subject
“As I spent those weeks recovering I had a lot of time to think. I was still angry for a while, depressed even. That is, until Sixshot came to talk with me. He made me realize that I couldn’t continue on the path I had been taking. It was not sustainable. And here we are today, I haven’t gone after anyone in any malicious manner since."
He takes a tentative step closer to Megatron, taking a risk by placing a hand on his shoulder
“And to answer your question, the arrangement is… uncomfortable. I have done too much to ever be able to earn anything resembling a truce to them. But, I am trying. If I wasn’t remotely interested in the concept there would be no Autobots here to collaborate with at all."

But what Tarn was saying was true. He's been remarkably well behaved after he was pounded into the ground. It could be a change of heart, or it could be that it was politically inconvenient for Tarn to act.
"I'm aware of that. It's why your head is still firmly attached to your shoulders."
It felt wrong to threaten someone this way, but Tarn was really pushing his patience.
"What is it you wanted to say about Helex?"
no subject
"I'll make sure he doesn't bother anyone. He'll follow my lead even if he isn't sure about it at the moment. He may be a bit crass and brutish at times, but he is exceedingly loyal."
From what he had gathered from seeing the aftermath of the fight bewteeen Helex and Megatron, a clear effort had been made on the miner's part to take down his wayward subordinate. However the winner of that scuffle was clear as day as Tarn arrived on the scene. and it was not Megatron.
"However," Tarn takes a moment to consider how to phrase this without offending Megatron, "I can't help but worry about what would have happened if I hadn't been able to arrive as quickly as I did. If it doesn't seem too forward of me, I would like to offer you a bit of self defense training. In case you find yourself in such a position again."
What he really means is, 'teach the pacifist miner how to wield violence in a constructive and seemingly positive manner'.

Helex's exceeding loyalty to Tarn was exactly what made him wary. Tarn on his own is limited in what he can do, but Tarn with a minion made him more of a headache to deal with. Still, he'd prefer not to have them killed if they make peace.
That said, he wasn't stupid, he knew exactly what Tarn was implying and knew that it held quite the grain of truth. He isn't offended at the notion, Helex was a battle hardened warrior. Megatron picked up what little knowledge he had in a handful of brawls he was forced into. It'd be concerning if there wasn't some sort of skill gap.
"It's being taken care of," he says matter-of-factly,"We've no shortage of warriors."
Or weapons engineers with a creative streak.

Most of Megatron’s friends are Autobots. Surely they aren’t jumping at the opportunity to arm the young miner with hand to hand combat skills.
“Besides, I promise you that you won’t find a better teacher.” Or a more enthusiastic one. “No one needs to know about it, if that’s what your concerned about. I just want you to be able to protect yourself.”
His shoulders slump slightly, treads rustling slightly with faux unease. optics dim slightly as his gaze flicks to the side. He can't tell if this gimmick is working or not so he tries for another. Something maybe more subtle. Guilt.
“But, if you don’t feel comfortable, I understand. I suppose that I haven’t made the best impression as of late."

Holding a queue for self defense teachers seems like an excellent way to let some of the more ambitious Decepticons try to muscle in leadership of their own.
He quirks a non-brow at Tarn's quietly aggressive insistence he was the option. He certainly wasn't a bad one, but he came with a hefty set of aftereffects.
"So if I were to call Optimus at this very moment, you would say with full confidence you would do a better job of besting someone in a hand to hand fight."
no subject
"Of course I would."
His chest puffs out a bit as he tries to sooth his pride. The thought of Megatron even thinking of going to Optimus has rage rising in his core. He's sure that the miner is bluffing. He would never go to the Prime for something like that. Even if he did, surely Optimus would refuse.
However, if he really did intend to test Tarn... he's not sure that he would win. Not without using his voice, and surely that would be cheating.
"Without a doubt."
He's glad that the mask helps to cover the brief flicker of unbecoming expressions across his features.
no subject
"I'm surprised you weren't sent after him if that were the case."
Whether Tarn was actually skilled enough to best the Autobot leader was irrelevant. He knew more than Megatron did and was willing to teach him. Maybe this was a way to keep an eye on the Decepticon.
"So what is what you consider adequate defense?"
no subject
A giddy sort of smile twitches his lips
“Allow me to demonstrate.” His voice is smooth and confident as he moves deliberately into Megatron’s space, facing him head on. "Try to hit me.”
no subject
"I don't particularly enjoy being taken for a fool, Tarn. What are you going to show me?"
Look at that! He's so interested in this lesson he wants a little verbal walking through from his new teacher.
no subject
“Blocking. All it takes is a bit of quick thinking and observation; something that I know you excel at.” Tarn holds his head high and he shifts eagerly from foot to foot, adjusting his stance.
“Now, go ahead and I’ll show you. We will then stop, regroup, and I'll explain the technique. Then you will try.”
no subject
But he doesn't wait for Tarn to finish before casually reaching his hand forward and attempting to whap the Decepticon in the chin while he's still talking.
Tarn never said when he had to attack, right?

Tarn laughs. A genuinely lighthearted noise that somehow seems wrong coming from a mech like the leader of the DJD. There isn’t a hint of malice or spite in the sound, simply joy.
“Clever. Good technique; using my distraction against me.”
He crosses his arms regarding Megatron with interest.
“It is important to keep your attention focused on even the slightest movement of your opponent. Be a step or two ahead at all times. You found my weakness and exploited it, which was an excellent tactic. However, even with my attention elsewhere i was able to pick up the minuscule movements in your frame which gave away your intentions. The tightening of your arm as you prepared to raise it, for example. It’s all about observation."
