[ INTRO LOG ]

You don't know how you got here. One minute you were walking, sleeping, maybe dead -- then you're here, your feet suddenly carrying you down an empty street. Where's here?

Any Cybertronian would recognize this as their home planet, Cybertron, but it's not a Cybertron they've ever known. It has all the familiar hallmarks, but none of the specifics -- the city isn't one anyone here could identify, and even at a glance it's obvious that no one's set foot on the planet's surface in hundreds of years. The city and its surrounding areas all bear the marks of devastating war, of dust and rust collected over centuries. With no one in sight -- right at first, anyway -- there's plenty to explore. In fact, if you start walking, you'll find that your feet may just carry you in one particular direction.

A) The crater.
On one edge of the city is a massive crater left by some wartime weapon that seems to have taken out a large chunk of the surrounding metropolitan area. At the center of the crater it's broken through the surface of the terrain to reveal what looks like it might be a promising energon deposit. There is some strange but native vegetation growing around the edges, too, that no Cybertronian would be able to identify -- small, metallic, brittle-looking sprouts that bear a curiously organic-looking fruit of some kind that doesn't look like it's intended for consumption by any natives of the planet. In one rocky nook of the crater, light catches on the surface of a pool of water, which seems strangely out of place on Cybertron. On closer inspection, it seems that somehow an underground water source has formed a spring in the crater.

B) The center of the city.
If you follow where your feet seem to want to carry you, you'll find yourself in the middle of the ruined city. It seems that the center of the city was once home to a massive forum, and some of the pillars and structures still stand. At the very center of the forum is a massive, elaborately constructed fountain, although it has now long since run dry of whatever used to fill it. One of the low, inner walls of the forum has a terminal embedded in its surface, although it looks curiously ancient, out of place with the rest of the city, and unlike the rest of the technology still left around, there doesn't seem to be any way to power it on or operate it. There are a few scattered pools of water and a few of the strange metallic plants in the city, too, but they're not quite as plentiful as in the crater.

The planet was obviously once home to a massive network of communication relays, but those have all been long since destroyed. However, with the bits and pieces left behind and a few determined minds, it wouldn't be too hard to build a working, if rudimentary, one...

You're welcome.

"Just Nightbeat, although as he's carrying Brainstorm's briefcase, there's the chance that that this," a gesture to the world around them, "And our presence here is the result of Brainstorm's interference or something having gone wrong with the cases back on the Lost Light." Which is approximately where her experience and talents run out. Nautica can throw out hypotheses out all she wants, but she'd need either Perceptor or Brainstorm here to crunch the numbers.

"Er, I don't suppose you know where on Cybertron we are? I've been cross referencing the architecture and technology with what I've read and nothing's coming up as a solid match."

Megatron nods grimly as she speaks.

"No," he says. "This is nowhere on Cybertron that I recognise. In fact, I don't believe this is our Cybertron at all." He glances at Nautica, and adds, "Or mine, I suppose. I've encountered multiple individuals who have asserted I look nothing like the Megatron they're familiar with... including more than one who claim to be me. Whatever is going on here is affecting more than just the Lost Light."

"Oh."

Hang on, she's thinking about this.

"Let's operate from the assumption that Cybertron, um, this Cybertron is acting as a nexus point. Different timelines and different realities are all converging in upon themselves and this planet is the only common denominator between all of them. And we've ended up here as a result of the collapse of our own realities as a safety measure. But we've seen something similar with Shockwave, so I'm inclined to believe it's more complicated than that."

A tap of her wrench against her chin before she holds it out before them, calling up a holographic image of Cybertron. Her Cybertron, but she thinks it'll do for now.

"I love my wrench," she says, with a happy sigh. "Regardless, if we found some sort of energy signal from a source powerful enough to do all this, that would make getting back easier."

"Hmm," says Megatron, watching the hologram slowly rotate, which I am assuming it does because that's what holographic images of planets always do. Her theory doesn't sound totally implausible. "It would... But if you're right then we might not have anywhere to get back to."

"Oh," her face falls - she'd been too wrapped up in the idea of the thing to actually consider the consequences. "I suppose that's true, yes. Sorry."

The hologram is indeed spinning, and Nautica prods it with a finger idly, excitement gone for the moment.

"Finding a power source should still be one of our top priorities, Megatron. Sir." Is that overstepping her bounds? She hopes not - she likes Megatron, he's a decent captain and fairly competent at that. "Er, just so that we have one for the duration of our stay. And if it's permanent, I think we'd all prefer to have power as soon as possible."

"You're right, it should." He looks from the globe to her face, his expression thoughtful. "You don't seem especially bothered by the prospect of it being permanent, Nautica," he observes.
nerdica: (sad nautica is sad)

[personal profile] nerdica 2015-01-03 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
That's. Also true, and she looks taken aback at the idea.

"I've just been so wrapped up in the idea I--" Her face falls even further, because this is the second time Nautica has been faced with the prospect of never seeing her friends again. "I can't imagine not seeing everyone again."

Chromia, Windblade, everyone on the Lost Light. It seemed so callous to think about this being permanent, and without them. One of her hands comes up to brush the Autobot symbol at the base of her neck gently - thoughts with Chromia and Windblade for a moment.

Oh no. He made her upset. He really isn't used to having made someone upset being something he has to... do anything about? But it kind of is, here? God damnit

"... My apologies," he says, a little hesitantly.

"That's very nice of you to say, Captain." And when in the history of ever has Megatron ever had that said to him? She straightens up a bit, still downcast but far more resolved than she was a few minutes earlier. "I'm sorry, I just miss Chromia and Windblade already--"

Focus, Nautica.

"Um, if we can establish a base of operations and return power to the area, we can find a way of getting back. And, well, I'm going to assume there is one from now on unless proven otherwise." She checks her wrench again, letting it zoom in on the section where it thinks they're at, give or take an established margin of error. "I'll finish mapping the city, and then I can run a comparison with other similarly laid out cities to find the places most likely to have been some sort of generator."
towardspeace: (are you fucking kidding me)

Nobody has ever said that to Megatron, ever. He isn't sure how he feels about it. It makes him a little bit uncomfortable. If Nautica's good to move on then he sure as hell is too.

"Good," he says. "How close do you think you are to having it mapped?"
