[ INTRO LOG ]
You don't know how you got here. One minute you were walking, sleeping, maybe dead -- then you're here, your feet suddenly carrying you down an empty street. Where's here?
Any Cybertronian would recognize this as their home planet, Cybertron, but it's not a Cybertron they've ever known. It has all the familiar hallmarks, but none of the specifics -- the city isn't one anyone here could identify, and even at a glance it's obvious that no one's set foot on the planet's surface in hundreds of years. The city and its surrounding areas all bear the marks of devastating war, of dust and rust collected over centuries. With no one in sight -- right at first, anyway -- there's plenty to explore. In fact, if you start walking, you'll find that your feet may just carry you in one particular direction.
A) The crater.
On one edge of the city is a massive crater left by some wartime weapon that seems to have taken out a large chunk of the surrounding metropolitan area. At the center of the crater it's broken through the surface of the terrain to reveal what looks like it might be a promising energon deposit. There is some strange but native vegetation growing around the edges, too, that no Cybertronian would be able to identify -- small, metallic, brittle-looking sprouts that bear a curiously organic-looking fruit of some kind that doesn't look like it's intended for consumption by any natives of the planet. In one rocky nook of the crater, light catches on the surface of a pool of water, which seems strangely out of place on Cybertron. On closer inspection, it seems that somehow an underground water source has formed a spring in the crater.
B) The center of the city.
If you follow where your feet seem to want to carry you, you'll find yourself in the middle of the ruined city. It seems that the center of the city was once home to a massive forum, and some of the pillars and structures still stand. At the very center of the forum is a massive, elaborately constructed fountain, although it has now long since run dry of whatever used to fill it. One of the low, inner walls of the forum has a terminal embedded in its surface, although it looks curiously ancient, out of place with the rest of the city, and unlike the rest of the technology still left around, there doesn't seem to be any way to power it on or operate it. There are a few scattered pools of water and a few of the strange metallic plants in the city, too, but they're not quite as plentiful as in the crater.
The planet was obviously once home to a massive network of communication relays, but those have all been long since destroyed. However, with the bits and pieces left behind and a few determined minds, it wouldn't be too hard to build a working, if rudimentary, one...

"But you just saw us when we were back on Cybertron- for the trial?" He stumbles under one particularly heavy shoulder thump. "And it's Rodimus, not Hot Rod. Not since we got back to Earth from Cybertron with Sunstreaker, remember?"
As for where he's come from - "My ship? I mean I was on my ship before I got here, and I'm not sure how that happened. Brainstorm probably."
no subject
"Trial?" he asks, squinting at the other bot. "What trial? And... earth?"
None of this is making sense, and it's not long before he's just staring at Rodimus like the kid's grown a second head.
"Uh. What?"
no subject
Rodimus, you are not helping. He rubs the back of his helm for a second before: "What part isn't something you remember? Drift's suffering memory loss too so it's going around - don't feel bad if people know more than you."
no subject
Because almost none of that is making sense. Those are words, sure. But -- he has no idea how they form together or how they even begin to relate to things he should know about. Frustration creeps into his voice before he can help it.
"All of it! There's nothin' about what you just said that makes any damn sense! Who's Drift? What's goin' on around here?" A beat, and then, more accusingly:
"An' who the scrap decided to call you 'Rodimus'? That makes you sound like some kinda pin-up model!"
Whoops. Someone went a little... dad-rant.
no subject
Okay now for the rest of it. "Drift is my best friend, used to go around calling himself Deadlock and was a Decepticon. No one knows what's going on so can't help you there." You are seriously asking the wrong bot for him to even theorize.
no subject
Of course, this lament is cut off by the rest of what Rodimus says making it through his thick head. He just squints at the smaller bot. "Earth? I never heard that word before in my life..."
Not that he remembers, anyway. Once more, his optics sort of glaze over as Rodimus continues on. Ex-Decepticons, friends... he supposes it's not much weirder than the rest of this scrap.
"Then we should probably go find someone who can help. Standin' around ain't gonna help."
no subject
On account of Ironhide getting shot covering him. Little things like that.
Has no one told you that the war is over, Ironhide? Because that's kind of important. "Well some of my crew is here already, but no one like Percy who knows for sure, but I'm betting it's Brainstorm." Because Brainstorm, really.
no subject
That doesn't bode well. And then his face darkens.
"Who gave you a crew?"
Sorry, Rodimus. He has a really hard time accepting how many years have passed, let alone the fact Rodimus isn't Hot Rod like he should be. And the kid he knew probably shouldn't have been leading a parade, let alone a crew...
"I mean uh. Brainwho?"
no subject
Oh Primus, are they all dead? Is this what this is? Rodimus hopes not, he's still resolved not to die just yet. There's things he hasn't done, he can't just die before he's done them! But the comment about him having a crew makes him wince slightly. Thanks, Ironhide.
"No one gave them to me, they joined my ship on their own." So there. "Brainstorm. He does weapons. And might be a Decepticon."
no subject
At least he hopes he would. He likes to think it would be pretty stupid for Trion to bring him back, only to have him die again. Than again... he is missing a lot.
"Uh huh..." Sorry, your explanation went in one ear and out the other. "He's what. Where is he? I'll handle him."
Good job, Rodimus.
no subject
There. Good job Rodimus, that's a good summary.
"Look, don't bother. We've got him covered - if he thinks he's gonna screw us all over we've got a back up plan."
That involves punching him.
no subject
Except the rest. He squints. And looks a little bit like he got smacked in the face by something heavy. "It's... what?"
Because last time he checked, it was dead and covered with bugs who wanted to eat him. And everything else that moved.
"Yeah, and that is?"
no subject
It kind of is.
"Punch him!"
no subject
Dammit, Rodimus be responsible for once in your life.
He just gives the other bot a flat look. "That's just what I said I was gonna do."
no subject
"Yeah but it's different. We're punching him to make him better, not because he's a 'con."
no subject
He steps forward again, grabbing Rodimus by the shoulders. Staring at him like he'd just said Optimus turned into a space monkey or made a speech about cancelling an apocalypse caused by giant monsters from another dimension. He doesn't shake him, but the temptation is there.
"You can't make a 'con better. What're you thinking, Hot-- Rodimus? Are you thinking?"
no subject
Why are you acting like it's a big deal, Ironhide. It goes through worse. But his eyes flick to the hands on his shoulders and back up at Ironhide as he attempts to shrug out of the grip of the other.
"What? Of course I am! Drift's proof of it, okay."
Oh is this the point where Ironhide realizes Rodimus's best friend is an ex-con and one of the worst? Because. Yeah.
no subject
He doesn't know. But, as far as he does know, the Matrix isn't... supposed to break. Prime never mentioned anything like that. His fingers dig in as Rodimus tries to break away -- not to hurt him. Just... trying to hold on long enough for an answer.
"I don't know who that is!"
no subject
Don't ask him about the past tense, Ironhide. Please don't ask him about the past tense.
"My best friend! He used to be a Decepticon, come on, Ironhide. Everyone knows who he is!"
no subject
Oh, he's going to ask. You can't tell Ironhide something like that and then expect him not to ask.
"Well I don't! I don't -- I don't remember anything!"
no subject
Whoops.
"Okay, okay! You don't know anything but I'm trying to tell you what you missed!" Mostly. He's doing a terrible job of it.
no subject
No, Rodimus. Stop. Literally nothing you're saying right now is helping him calm down or feel better about the huge gap of missing time in his head.
"No, you're just makin' things worse!"
