[ INTRO LOG ]

You don't know how you got here. One minute you were walking, sleeping, maybe dead -- then you're here, your feet suddenly carrying you down an empty street. Where's here?

Any Cybertronian would recognize this as their home planet, Cybertron, but it's not a Cybertron they've ever known. It has all the familiar hallmarks, but none of the specifics -- the city isn't one anyone here could identify, and even at a glance it's obvious that no one's set foot on the planet's surface in hundreds of years. The city and its surrounding areas all bear the marks of devastating war, of dust and rust collected over centuries. With no one in sight -- right at first, anyway -- there's plenty to explore. In fact, if you start walking, you'll find that your feet may just carry you in one particular direction.

A) The crater.
On one edge of the city is a massive crater left by some wartime weapon that seems to have taken out a large chunk of the surrounding metropolitan area. At the center of the crater it's broken through the surface of the terrain to reveal what looks like it might be a promising energon deposit. There is some strange but native vegetation growing around the edges, too, that no Cybertronian would be able to identify -- small, metallic, brittle-looking sprouts that bear a curiously organic-looking fruit of some kind that doesn't look like it's intended for consumption by any natives of the planet. In one rocky nook of the crater, light catches on the surface of a pool of water, which seems strangely out of place on Cybertron. On closer inspection, it seems that somehow an underground water source has formed a spring in the crater.

B) The center of the city.
If you follow where your feet seem to want to carry you, you'll find yourself in the middle of the ruined city. It seems that the center of the city was once home to a massive forum, and some of the pillars and structures still stand. At the very center of the forum is a massive, elaborately constructed fountain, although it has now long since run dry of whatever used to fill it. One of the low, inner walls of the forum has a terminal embedded in its surface, although it looks curiously ancient, out of place with the rest of the city, and unlike the rest of the technology still left around, there doesn't seem to be any way to power it on or operate it. There are a few scattered pools of water and a few of the strange metallic plants in the city, too, but they're not quite as plentiful as in the crater.

The planet was obviously once home to a massive network of communication relays, but those have all been long since destroyed. However, with the bits and pieces left behind and a few determined minds, it wouldn't be too hard to build a working, if rudimentary, one...

"Your guess is as good as mine, old friend."

He shifts his gaze outward, taking in the crater as he tries to assess the situation. "The star patterns clearly indicate Cybertron, although I have never seen something like this--" a hand gestures out to the plants.

"--And with everything destroyed, my suspicions raise even further."

Please tell him this isn't what happens when you leave Starscream in charge. He's really going to regret that one of these days.

"But I don't even recognize all of the destroyed stuff. I'd buy the geography being different, but all the things that were built and knocked down are equally unfamiliar. It seems like Cybertron, but I honestly have no idea where we are."

Ratchet shakes his head, his mouth compressing wryly.

"Not that it's not great to see you but, as always, circumstances could be better."

"We never seem to be able to catch up when it's most convenient, do we."

He lets out a soft vent, about as much as a laugh as you can get out of the bot. But Ratchet was right. This wasn't Cybertron, at least not the one he knew. Another mystery to add to the pile, it seems. The questions keep mounting in Optimus's head, walking over to get a better look at some of the rubble. "The technology...it certainly isn't anything I'm accustomed to either. And yet...I cannot think of any other race who would have made something so similar to us. "

Yet different.

..."Perhaps its something we can figure out later. We're going to need a base, or a hub of some kind."

If Ratchet was here, there had to be others.

"Ha! We'd have to ever have a time when it was convenient to do that."

Ratchet nods, though, regarding Optimus more seriously. Work first, also as always.

"I need to scrounge what I can for a medibay, too. There are more people here--we're going to need parts, supplies. I might be able to liberate some from the old buildings that are here, but I don't know what kind of stuff I'm going to find."

"I'll look forward to that day, then."

He'll buy drinks, too.

"Look for necessities first. Spare Energon, perhaps from the pool that's massed in this crater. If there are more people, we're going to need to make sure we keep a healthy supply."

His arms fold, surveying the area.

"I could retrieve some scrap metal. Whatever I can find."

"We could pick one of the abandoned buildings as a base."

Ratchet shakes his helm, his hand finding the base of his helm to press absently at taut cables.

"At least there seems to be enough fuel around. But I have no idea what's with this organic plant matter."

[personal profile] luckyfaceplate 2015-01-07 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
"A good idea, Ratchet."

It's the first time his tone has lifted since they arrived, his hand placing itself on the other's shoulder.

"As for the organic matter. Perhaps...it's something that happened during the terraform--or a species we'd not discovered on our Cybertron..."

...

"Are there any scientists to account for?"

"Haven't met any yet, but that doesn't mean they're not here."

Ratchet's face lightens a little too, as Optimus' hand settles on his shoulder.

"I've seen an organic or two running around also. It might be for them, but I'm not sure."

Something Optimus hopes for, to be honest. Because as much as he'd like to stay on alternate primordial Cybertron, there are things to attend to back home. A hand goes up to his chin in thought, ears ticking slightly back as he starts to walk.

"Were they native? The planet seems to be providing for them, but they could also be a Cybertronian form of wildlife we've never seen."
