[ INTRO LOG ]
You don't know how you got here. One minute you were walking, sleeping, maybe dead -- then you're here, your feet suddenly carrying you down an empty street. Where's here?
Any Cybertronian would recognize this as their home planet, Cybertron, but it's not a Cybertron they've ever known. It has all the familiar hallmarks, but none of the specifics -- the city isn't one anyone here could identify, and even at a glance it's obvious that no one's set foot on the planet's surface in hundreds of years. The city and its surrounding areas all bear the marks of devastating war, of dust and rust collected over centuries. With no one in sight -- right at first, anyway -- there's plenty to explore. In fact, if you start walking, you'll find that your feet may just carry you in one particular direction.
A) The crater.
On one edge of the city is a massive crater left by some wartime weapon that seems to have taken out a large chunk of the surrounding metropolitan area. At the center of the crater it's broken through the surface of the terrain to reveal what looks like it might be a promising energon deposit. There is some strange but native vegetation growing around the edges, too, that no Cybertronian would be able to identify -- small, metallic, brittle-looking sprouts that bear a curiously organic-looking fruit of some kind that doesn't look like it's intended for consumption by any natives of the planet. In one rocky nook of the crater, light catches on the surface of a pool of water, which seems strangely out of place on Cybertron. On closer inspection, it seems that somehow an underground water source has formed a spring in the crater.
B) The center of the city.
If you follow where your feet seem to want to carry you, you'll find yourself in the middle of the ruined city. It seems that the center of the city was once home to a massive forum, and some of the pillars and structures still stand. At the very center of the forum is a massive, elaborately constructed fountain, although it has now long since run dry of whatever used to fill it. One of the low, inner walls of the forum has a terminal embedded in its surface, although it looks curiously ancient, out of place with the rest of the city, and unlike the rest of the technology still left around, there doesn't seem to be any way to power it on or operate it. There are a few scattered pools of water and a few of the strange metallic plants in the city, too, but they're not quite as plentiful as in the crater.
The planet was obviously once home to a massive network of communication relays, but those have all been long since destroyed. However, with the bits and pieces left behind and a few determined minds, it wouldn't be too hard to build a working, if rudimentary, one...

It... looks like his partner. Like Pax. But at the same time...
Maybe he got whacked on the head harder than he thought. He blinks a few times, dragging a muddied hand over his face.
"Yeah?" He slowly shoves himself into a sitting position. "It... Okay, don't take this the wrong way, but you really sound like someone I know. You look like him too. Kind of."
A beat.
"More than 'kind of'. I mean, that looks like his lucky faceplate and..." He trails off. "Pax?"
no subject
It...IS Roller.
"Roller. It's me."
His voice is slightly humbled from the sheer fact that he's looking into the past right now. Roller hasn't been seen since he was an outlaw. So this is...a huge deal for him.
no subject
He has to look twice. And then a third time. He accepts the help, though, wavering only slightly when he gets up on his feet. The sudden change in altitude is mildly helpful. Because that way, at least... he's at the right height for his old partner.
"You don't..." He makes a few awkward gestures to the entirety of the other bot. "You don't look like the guy who left a couple hours ago."
no subject
You have no idea how happy he is to see you, Roller.
"Some time has passed, old friend. Four million years."
no subject
But those eyes.
And then he almost falls flat back on his backside. He does stagger a bit, the pounding in his head sharpening as he does. Four million years?
"I just... saw you."
no subject
"Hmm. Perhaps you only recently escaped where you disappeared to. When we were saving those sparks--you were nowhere to be found."
And believe him, he kept looking.
no subject
"Hold on," he says, holding his hands up. "Last thing I remember is... well. You were off stealing the Matrix and I was watching the fort. Sort of."
Nothing about sparks. Unless he meant Shockwave's...
"Definitely not disappeared, though."
no subject
His eyes shoot open, as wide as they can. As do his hands shoot out to grab the larger bot's forearms. His voice...it's never sounded so urgent.
"You were still watching Shockwave? All the way back when..."
no subject
"Hey, easy. Calm down, big guy."
His own hands settle under P... his partner's elbows.
"It was probably five minutes ago. Not that long ago."
no subject
"Roller. I'm...you've missed an entire war."
Dropping that truth bomb gently, as always.
"I'm Optimus Prime now."
no subject
That's a thing.
He actually takes a step backward, staring. The pounding in his head gets sharp again, building up right between his optics. He has to sit down--
A war?
Prime? How in ... ? What had happened during the Matrix operation? What did Shockwave do?
And he does sit down, staring at the ground.
"Oh." Pause. "That's... that's uh. Something."
no subject
A hand slowly reaches out, resting on top of the large mech's shoulder. It was hard--knowing that there were four million years that he wasn't accounted for. Optimus is just as surprised at that as the next bot.
But where does he begin...
"Shockwave...he was shadowplayed. Empurata, too."
no subject
What does he even call his old friend now? Pax? Prime? Sir? He doesn't know. He's staring out at the crater, trying to process that small fact before anything else when the hand settles on his shoulder. Out of sheer reflex, he reaches up to rest his own on it.
Only to flinch, and drop it.
"It's my fault. Isn't it?"
Wasn't it -- screw grammar, either way, he'd failed his partner. He'd known it the minute the walls broke down around them.
no subject
He couldn't. Roller was his partner, and he trusted him with his life.
He named his trailer after you, idiot.
"Please, don't let it cloud your thoughts"
no subject
He doesn't believe it. Not really. He wants to, he really does. But... he was there. He was supposed to be the one to watch their backs -- to keep them safe. And...
"Guess we should probably focus on how we got here, or... how to get out of here."
no subject
He turns his back, to get a better look at the crater around them. Surveying it.
"And this time, you'll be coming back with me."
He's not going to lose you again.
"This is certainly Cybertron, although I don't recall this damage."
no subject
But familiar chaos.
"Yeah, me either. But you probably expected that one."
no subject
The fact that Roller might be gone--it was hard news to break.
"I suppose I should've. Just keep close to me, alright?"
He really doesn't mean to be so clingy, really, Roller.
no subject
Prime?
After a moment, he looks up, something like his old self flickering in his eyes. "Someone's got clingy," he says, a little teasingly. "You must really miss my face."
no subject
"Hmm. Some things change." But he looks up giving Roller THAT look. The sassy one with the attitude of 'I could suplex you right now if I needed to'.
"Some things don't."
no subject
He's all prepared for the conversation to go spiraling downhill again. Because wouldn't that just be par for the course of today? He even looks moody. But... then...
Then he catches that look, and gives the other bot's shoulder a shove.
"Okay, okay, message received. Let's not keep standing around here like big targets."
no subject
So he begins to lead the way, searching among the rocks for something that can hide his...larger friend.
"Please, keep close."
no subject
He huffs, and looks after him for a long moment, before he starts to follow.
"Yeah, got it, hide behind you. I'm sure I'll fit okay."
