[ INTRO LOG ]

You don't know how you got here. One minute you were walking, sleeping, maybe dead -- then you're here, your feet suddenly carrying you down an empty street. Where's here?

Any Cybertronian would recognize this as their home planet, Cybertron, but it's not a Cybertron they've ever known. It has all the familiar hallmarks, but none of the specifics -- the city isn't one anyone here could identify, and even at a glance it's obvious that no one's set foot on the planet's surface in hundreds of years. The city and its surrounding areas all bear the marks of devastating war, of dust and rust collected over centuries. With no one in sight -- right at first, anyway -- there's plenty to explore. In fact, if you start walking, you'll find that your feet may just carry you in one particular direction.

A) The crater.
On one edge of the city is a massive crater left by some wartime weapon that seems to have taken out a large chunk of the surrounding metropolitan area. At the center of the crater it's broken through the surface of the terrain to reveal what looks like it might be a promising energon deposit. There is some strange but native vegetation growing around the edges, too, that no Cybertronian would be able to identify -- small, metallic, brittle-looking sprouts that bear a curiously organic-looking fruit of some kind that doesn't look like it's intended for consumption by any natives of the planet. In one rocky nook of the crater, light catches on the surface of a pool of water, which seems strangely out of place on Cybertron. On closer inspection, it seems that somehow an underground water source has formed a spring in the crater.

B) The center of the city.
If you follow where your feet seem to want to carry you, you'll find yourself in the middle of the ruined city. It seems that the center of the city was once home to a massive forum, and some of the pillars and structures still stand. At the very center of the forum is a massive, elaborately constructed fountain, although it has now long since run dry of whatever used to fill it. One of the low, inner walls of the forum has a terminal embedded in its surface, although it looks curiously ancient, out of place with the rest of the city, and unlike the rest of the technology still left around, there doesn't seem to be any way to power it on or operate it. There are a few scattered pools of water and a few of the strange metallic plants in the city, too, but they're not quite as plentiful as in the crater.

The planet was obviously once home to a massive network of communication relays, but those have all been long since destroyed. However, with the bits and pieces left behind and a few determined minds, it wouldn't be too hard to build a working, if rudimentary, one...

"Because - because if they killed us the 'Bots would've just kicked their tailpipes! They wanted to make them trade, not just tick them off!"

She looks sort of affronted on Optimus's behalf at that second part. So maybe there were a few million years of war that she wasn't there for, but that doesn't sound like the Optimus she knows. "But why would he do that?! He knows the Autobots need him, he wouldn't just leave them like that!"

"Sounds like something Optimus would agree to, but I still think it's weird. And not possible, even we couldn't stay here for thousands of years." So there! His argument is clearly the better one.

She can look affronted for all Rodimus cares, it's still something Optimus does and has done. "Well the first time it was because he, I don't know, felt bad about us getting stuck on Earth and then getting shot and killed. So we held a vote for another leader. And then the last time was because he thought he was the war incarnate and in order for everyone to get along, had to leave." Things Rodimus shouldn't be doing: telling a tiny infant organic this. Things he is doing: exactly that. "It clearly didn't help because Starscream's in charge and I--"

Wait. Hold up.

"I knew leaving him in charge was a terrible idea. Look what he's done!"

At this point, her already-shaky efforts to piece together some kind of a timeline from this have just fallen apart. This makes no sense, she doesn't even know what this guy is talking about and whoa wait what did he just say?

"Wait, wait - Starscream? Who would put Starscream in charge of anything?!" And for that matter, he sure didn't seem very 'in charge' when she ran into him earlier.

"It's not my fault," he stresses. Just in case. "We left Cybertron, and everyone here decided to elect him leader."

No, he doesn't get it either. He was fully expecting Bumblebee to win, and wouldn't have put it past Prowl to make sure that happened.

"Why would they decide that? There were only like three 'Cons left-- okay, I guess there might be more somewhere, but I'm pretty sure even they hate him anyway!" Then something else clicks. "Wait, when who left? Weren't you guys just getting started on getting back on Cybertron?"

"I don't know, I wasn't there." But his tone betrays the fact that he finds it just as incredulous as she does. "And there's way more than two. I mean, they still should have known better to vote for Starscream."

The NAILS did, but that's way too much political detail for Rodimus to care about.

"Yeah, but I wasn't about to stay there and start again. Bumblebee wanted to lose who we are. I'm not letting that happen, I'm going to find the Knights and bring them back." Somewhere along the way he forgot that the human is not going to understand half of that. His bad.

"Bumblebee was trying to do what?" She frowns; she could see how suddenly getting his voice back could change some stuff, but from what Rodimus is saying this sounds pretty bad.

"And what knights? I didn't know Cybertron even had knights, I thought the closest you guys got was the whole 'warrior class' thing."
